JERUSALEM
Jerusalem - its name resonates in the hearts of Christians, Jews and Muslims alike, echoing through centuries of divided and contested history. Known as Yerushalayim in Hebrew and al-Quds in Arabic, it is one of the oldest cities in the world.
It has been conquered, destroyed and rebuilt again and again, and each layer of its soil reveals a different piece of the past.
